About Us

The Wayside Senior Program was incorporated in 1980 as a not-for-profit organization to provide community-based alternatives to the institutionalization for elderly and homebound individuals.

Between 1980 and 1992, the agency received funds from the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development Agency (DYCD) and NYS Office for the Aging (SOFA) to support the senior programs. Wayside was awarded contracts by the NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA) to sponsor five additional multi-purpose senior centers and satellites. The Senior Center operates under the mandates of the Older American’s Act, the New York State Community Services for the Elderly Act and Nutrition Services Assistance Program, and the New York City Department of the Aging.

Service provided for seniors consist of two nutritious hot meals served five days per week; information and referrals to served five days per week; Home Care, Social Security, SSI, Medicaid, Medicare, Food Stamps; Health Promotion Workshop; Medical Screening, Exercise and Nutrition Classes; Computer Training, Arts & Craft, Music. Wayside offers opportunities to volunteer and develop leadership skills by serving as center wide officers on the Advisory Board and/or Board of Directors. In addition, counseling and transportation services are also available. Broadening-Bonding-Building has demonstrated the significant contributions made towards achieving the agency’s mission of enhancing the quality of life for the elderly. We have instilled a Winning Team Spirit in our goal to reach new standards of excellence.
